The chief of army staff, Lt Gen Tukur Buratai, has said the Nigeria Army (NA) will work closely with other security agencies to prevent foreign intruders from interfering with the general electoral elections.

Speaking at the commissioning of Forward Operational Base (FOB) for the third division of the Nigeria Army in Sardauna local government area of Taraba state, Buratai assured Nigerians that the influx of refugees into the Mambilla Plateau due to the crisis in neighbouring Cameroon, would not affect the electoral process, Vanguard reports.

He urged politicians to avoid taking undue advantage of the humanitarian situation, noting that any act inimical to the peaceful conduct of the elections will be resisted by the army.
The army chief said the forward operational base was established to help combat security threats capable of jeopardising the territorial integrity of the nation.
Meanwhile, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is not taking the fact that it has no candidate in Zamfara ahead of the general elections in 2019 lightly.
The party declares that it would do everything within the law to ensure that it fields candidates in the state. Currently, the party has no candidates for the governorship and legislative elections in Zamfara.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Malam Lanre Issa-Onilu, the party’s national publicity secretary spoke at news conference on Thursday, January 31, in Abuja, saying: “INEC is relying on the fact that courts of equal jurisdiction have given conflicting judgements, we can understand that.
