Protesting Nigerians

Occupy Nigeria Group has announced that the will be a peaceful and peoples organized protest in the city of Port Harcourt next week Thursday April 14.

This protest which the group is said is aimed at driving a strong citizenship position against the inability of the Federal government to address the burning perennial fuel scarcity, zero Megawatts and total lack of electricity amidst increased tariff, incessant/fraudulent bank charges on poor Nigerians among other serious economic matters.

According to the facilitator of the Group, Livingstone Wechie, he said the protest will serve as a platform to proffer a lasting solution to this untold hardship by Nigerians which has resulted in incalculable losses, shutting down of businesses, increase in crime and criminality, mass job losses, lack of any economic policy direction by the Federal government, lack of projects among others.

Wechie was also heads the  ‘Integrity Group’ that signed petition sent to the National Assembly against former Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and Minister of Transport alleging  financial fraud and other sundry offences requesting that he should be confirmed as Minister of federal republic of Nigeria.

Wechie said: “We believe the government has exhibited gross ineptitude and incapacity in its dealings. Thus, it has continued to play the blame game on the past Goodluck Jonathan administration as a coverup to its failures which is a betrayal of its promises to Nigerians during the campaigns and elections that brought it to power.

“Thus the attitude of a travelling President in a travailing country can no longer be acceptable. Therefore we want to use this mass protest to creatively challenge and engage the government on what Nigerians want and how they want their future to be like”.

Occupy Nigeria Group also said that some of the group’s major objectives are to pressure government to solve the biting petroleum and power problems without any further delays or excuses and press home the demand for a quick review and investigation of the fraudulent/incessant bank charges made against the banking public.

Other demands include: a practical economic policy direction by the Federal government as a way of reviving this current economy that is almost brought to a halt and to exercise citizenship rights towards ensuring that government binds itself to do the bidding of the people.

Occupy Nigeria also said other reasons for the protest is to “put government in check and challenge it legally, lawfully, peacefully, creatively and pro-actively in its program for the masses, particularly in line with the promises it made on party platform on its way to power,
also drive and motivate an active and conscious citizenship participation in governance.

Fuel scarcity in Port Harcourt,Rivers State, especially Petrol sells between N250 and N300 per litre causing untold hardship.

The protest, which is tagged Occupy Nigeria Season 2 will involve people from various civil society organizations including: Civil Liberties organization, National Association of Nigerian Students,NANS, market women groups, student unions, Labour, Social media activists and several other professional bodies and interest groups.

Meanwhile, outspoken Ekiti state governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has said that the federal government was planning to impose more hardships on Nigerians by increasing Value Added Tax (VAT) from the current five per cent to 10 per cent.
Fayose described the move as insensitive to the plight of Nigerians who are suffering from the bad economic policies of the President Mohammadu Buhari led All Progressives Congress (APC) government.

Biafra: DSS should look for better reason to keep Nnamdi Kanu in jail – Brother

– A brother to the leader Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu has said Biafra agitators are not terrorists
– Debunking claims by the Department of State Services (DSS), Kanu’s brother said the IPOB has not clashed with any other group in Nigeria

A brother to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu has called on the Department of State Services (DSS)  to desist from branding Biafra agitators as terrorists.
Prince Kanu told that the statement the DSS is aimed at demonizing the IPOB.
Prince said: “I want the world to understand that the DSS have embarked on an operation to demonize the Biafra Independent organizations, and to label the IPOB a terrorist group, by accusing IPOB of killing and kidnapping some Fulani herdsmen; it is very pathetic.”
On Saturday, April, 9, the DSS in a statement said it has uncovered roles played by members of the IPOB in the abduction of five Hausa-Fulani residents at Isuikwuato local government area of Abia state.
The DSS said the victims were suspected to have been killed by their abductors and buried in shallow graves close to 50 other shallow graves of unidentified persons.
The agency claimed that the investigations conducted shows that elements within the IPOB carried out the abductions and killings in the southeast.

But contrary to DSS statement, Prince said the IPOB does not involve itself with any form of abduction or killings.
He said the IPOB is a group strictly focused on self-determination, which the group is aimed at achieving.
“Whatever reason they have behind it I cannot tell, but I can make it clear to you that IPOB is not a terrorist group; we are not a violent group; whatever we do today boils down to self-determination, we have no problem with any group in Nigeria as it today,” Prince said.
Stating that his brother has done nothing wrong, Prince also called on the DSS to engage in finding better reasons to jail Kanu rather than misleading the world.
“So if they are shopping for excuses or reasons to keep Nnamdi Kanu in detention, they had better bring a good one, if you look at the whole thing, if we had wanted to be violent, we would have done so in the beginning not now,” he said.
Prince said the IPOB as a group has never been violent and has no intention of becoming violent.
Prince added: “Nnamdi Kanu has done nothing wrong, there is no need to be violent, and there is no point to be violent.”

NFF Crisis: Festus Keyamo speaks on Amaju Pinnick’s sack

NFF Crisis: Festus Keyamo speaks on Amaju Pinnick’s sack

– Keyamo said report about the sacking of NFF chairman, Amaju Pinnick , is nothing but total and complete falsehood

– Keyamo asked the minister of sports not to aid this sheer madness

Festus keyamo

Festus keyamo

Litigation lawyer, Festus Keyamo has denied media reports on the sack of of the Board of the Nigerian Football Federation led by Amaju Pinnick.

Several media report has it that a federal High Court in Jos installed Mr. Chris Giwa as the new Chairman of the NFF.

Speaking through a press statement, Keyamo who is the lawyer to NFF chairman, Amaju Pinnick said the media reports is nothing but total and complete falsehood.

READ ALSO: $10million Scam: Former solicitor-general of Lagos speaks out

We are constrained to issue this statement to set the records straight owing to the sensitive nature of football administration in Nigeria,” Keyamo said.

For the purpose of clarity, at no time did the Honourable Court order the installation of one Chris Giwa as Chairman of the NFF as neither Chris Giwa nor Amaju Pinnick are parties to the present suit in JOS. It is therefore a distortion of the Order of the Honourable Court to assume that Chris Giwa was ordered to resume as the Chairman of the NFF.

“The Supreme Court of Nigeria has held times without number that no court of law can issue an Order against a person that is not a party in a suit before a court without joining or hearing from that party.

“And  no court of law can also install a party in an office who is not before the Court praying for such an Order. The said Chris Giwa is not a party before the case at the Federal High Court and the Court NEVER made an Order installing him as NFF President. It is like the bizarre case of the proxies of a loser in an election suing only INEC without joining the other victorious party in the case.

Keyamo enjoined the minister of sports not to aid this sheer madness.

“Whoever wants to remove Amaju Pinnick and members of the NFF board from office must approach the court to join them as parties and must seek clear and positive Orders against each and everyone of them. The public and all football lovers must ignore this storm in a tea cup. There is simply no court order removing anybody from office,” he stressed.

Sunderland 0-2 Leicester

What an enthralling and unpredictable season it has been in the EPL, ‘will’ probably be the most unexpected triumph for an underdog in sport, let alone football. For a team who was fighting against relegation this time last year as a newbie in the EPL to a team on the brink – and rightfully so, of winning the biggest price in world football is truly unprecedented and a joy to behold for all underdogs in any walk of life.

The EPL leaders moved even closer to the title with the clinical Jamie Vardy’s brace, the first in the 66th minute before adding his second – 21st of the season – in added time.

Leicester now need maximum nine points to become English champions for the first time while the relegation threatened home side remain in the bottom three, four points behind Norwich City, who they play next Saturday.

Tottenham 3-0 Manchester United

The match delay was worth the wait for the home side after the visitors team bus got stuck in traffic after blitzing them in six second half minutes to keep their faint title hopes alive.

Spurs ended their 15year wait for a victory at home to United to close the gap on the leaders to seven points with 15 points to play for.

The first half was an intriguing affair with both sides fighting tooth and nail to conjure an opening to no avail. The home side started the brighter in the second half before making their superiority count in the 70th minute when Dele Alli broke the deadlock with a first time strike past De Gea.

Toby Alderweireld doubled the scoring four minutes later with a header from Erik Lamela’s fine free kick before Lamela himself sealed the victory two minutes later with another first time shot past De Gea.

Tottenham are seven points behind Leicester and six above Arsenal in third with five games to play while United are still fighting for a Champion’s league place.

Liverpool 4-1 Stoke

Moreno, Sturridge and Origi helped Liverpool to an easy victory over Stoke despite the manager resting seven players ahead of the Europa League quater-final against Borussia Dortmund.

Origi staked his claim with a brace to justify his selection in midweek ahead of Sturridge despite rewarding his manager’s faith with a crucial away goal against Dortmund.

Moreno opened the scoring with a dipping long range strike before Bojan equalised for the away side.

Sturridge restored the lead with a close range header before Origi’s brace put paid to the tie.

Arsenal

West Ham vs Arsenal

West Ham 3-3 Arsenal

It was a goal fest at the Boleyn Ground, a typical scintillating derby match with no quarter given, end-to-end stuff.

Andy Carroll scored an eight-minute hat-trick on both sides of the half, but was not enough for the Hammers to secure a stunning comeback victory as the Hammers recovered from two nil down before the Emirates club snatched a late point.

West Ham found themselves two goals behind despite having a valid goal harshly ruled out for offside in the 14th minute of the match with Mesut Ozil opening the scoring with his sixth goal of the season just four minutes later.

Alexis Sanchez doubled the lead in the 35th minute – both goals assisted by Alex Iwobi, before Arsenal surrendered their control of the game when Carroll scored twice in less than two minutes.

Carroll scored again with an emphatic header- the first player to score a hat-trick against the Gunners since Wayne Rooney in 2011, shortly after half-time to put the hosts in front.

Koscielny levelled the scoring to ensure a share of the points when he netted past Adrian after Welbeck touched the ball into his path in this breathless match.

Bournemouth

Bournemouth players celebrates the victory

Aston Villa 1-2 Bournemouth

Aston Villa are closer the Premier League relegation, thanks to goals from Steve Cook and Joshua King with Jordan Ayew reducing the deficit in a home loss to Bournemouth.

Villa is one of only seven teams to have played in every EPL campaign since its launch, succumbed to the Premier League new boys to chatter the heart of the faithful.

Steve Cook put the visitors ahead with a deft flick before the break before Joshua King added a second with 74 minutes on the clock.

Jordan Ayew scored a late consolation, but did little to lift the gloom inside Villa Park. Bournemouth have now all but secured a second campaign in the EPL with this victory to allow the manager to plan for next season.

Alan Pardew as a Crystal Palace player

Alan Pardew as a Crystal Palace player

Crystal Palace 1-0 Norwich

Jason Puncheon scored his first goal of the season at the right time to end Crystal Palace’s lack of victory and misery in 2016 with this hard fought win over fellow strugglers Norwich City to ease their lingering fear of relegation.

READ ALSO: Ozil set to dump Arsenal as Chelsea gun for top midfielder

Puncheon’s long range strike settled a combative contest midway through the second half to leave the visitors fourth bottom – only four points clear of Sunderland who have two games in hand and play the first against leaders Leicester City on Sunday.

However, Palace are now 10 points clear of the dreaded relegation zone and could secure their status with a win against Everton on Wednesday.

Guus Hiddink

Guus Hiddink

Swansea 1-0 Chelsea

Chelsea’s Premier League unbeaten run Hiddink came to an abrupt end defeat with this loss to Swansea in their first match since Conte was confirmed as the permanent successor.

Gyfil Sigurdsson’s first goal in five league matches gave the Swans a deserved lead midway through the first-half, and Pato could have restored parity but wasted two golden opportunities.

Swansea resisted a late onslaught by the visitors to hold on and end Gus Hiddink’s 15-match unbeaten run while ensuring another season in the EPL in the process – their third consecutive home victory since 2013.

"Sadio Mane"

Sadio Mane of Southampton

Southampton 3-1 Newcastle

Newcastle’s EPL safety is looking precarious with another away defeat that leave them six points adrift of safety, lurching them closer to relegation.

Despite their desperate need of a result, they put in another below-par performance on their travels, to keep Southampton in sight of European football next season.

Shane Long broke the deadlock as early as first four minutes with a confident low finish before Graziano Pelle doubled the scoring with a bent effort into the bottom-right corner.

Victor Wanyama wrapped up the comfortable victory with his first goal of the season before a consolation goal from Andros Townsend.
