- JAMB also paraded one of its staff who was said to be involved in fraud related to securing admission for a candidate fraudulently
- Speaking on Saturday, May 11, the registrar of the board, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, said that the suspects are presently standing trial
The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Saturday, May 11, said that the 123 candidates arrested for examination malpractices during the Computer-Based Test (CBT) conducted recently are being prosecuted.
Professor Is-haq Oloyede, JAMB's registrar made this known in Abuja as he was parading a staff of the board Adamu Musa, who allegedly collected N25,000 from a candidate in 2018, PM News reports.

Until his arrest, Musa worked with the Information Technology (IT) unit of the examination body.
Concerning the suspect's involvement in the said crime, Oloyede said: “He collected N25,000 for admission. So, we are not hiding anything. Even internally, we are doing scrutiny. Anybody caught will be dealt with according to the law.”
On his part, Musa confessed to the crime, adding that he had refunded N10,000 to the candidate upon realising that the admission will not be possible.
He said: “The person came to me for admission and I told him that I knew people who would help. I collected N25,000 from him. But it did not work. So I refunded N10,000. He was the one who reported to the registrar. The person I contacted to assist the admission seeker said they had already closed the admission.
“I apologise and I want JAMB to temper justice with mercy. This is the first candidate I collected money from.”
The person who paid Musa N25,000, identified as Bakare Damilola, revealed that trouble started when the admission did not come through and the sum was not refunded.
Damilola explained: “I am not the one seeking admission. I was sent by the father of the candidate involved. I came and explained everything to this man (Musa). I wrote the candidate’s registration number down and he asked me to wait outside. Later, he told me it would involve money.
“The father of the girl, Mr Olaoye, who is based in Lagos State, sent the money to Musa’s account and I have the teller.

"Mr Olaoye was desperate for the admission of his daughter because she had stayed home for eight years. Eventually, the admission did not come through. We asked Musa to refund the money. He kept postponing and I reported him to the registrar.”
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that JAMB had announced that a 15-year-old boy from Abia state had emerged as best student in the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME). The candidate, Ekene Franklin, scored 347 in the just-released result of the examination.
Oloyode who is the registrar of JAMB who made the announcement on Saturday, May 11 said Ekene chose the University of Lagos as his preferred institution.
