Bad news as Chelsea suffer star major injury blow ahead of Arsenal showdown

Ruben Loftus-Cheek is a major doubt for Chelsea’s Europa League final against Arsenal after suffering an ankle injury during a friendly win over New England Revolution in the US.

Chelsea battled the MLS campaigners in a post-season clash in Boston, winning 3-0, with Maurizio Sarri publicly expressing his worries about game before Gunners’ clash in Baku.

And now Loftus-Cheek failed to complete the contest after limping off with a suspected ankle injury.

The Three Lions star appeared to have twisted his ankle in the second half of the encounter in the bumpy pitch at the Gillette Stadium.

Loftus-Cheek has been an important member of Chelsea’s Europa League campaign and could likely miss the final.

However, moments after the England international was captured on camera leaving the stadium on crutches, with his foot strapped with protective boot.

Speaking during his post-match, Sarri applauded the purpose the friendly was put in place, as Chelsea were in United States of America as part of their ‘Say No To Antisemitism’ campaign.

The Italian tactician opted for a strong Chelsea starting XI, even as he maintained the fixture was far from ideal with their Europa League final game coming up on May 29 in Baku, Azerbaijan.

“Travelling so far away and returning Friday morning before a Sunday match is tough,” Sarri stressed.

Ross Barkley netted twice during the match, with Olivier Giroud scoring Chelsea’s second of the game to see the Blues cruise to a 3-0 win.

Interestingly, Loftus-Cheek was one of the players to come off the bench, with Sarri making six substitutions after the first 45 minutes.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri is furious with club chiefs for sanctioning the Blues trip to the United States of America for a postseason game before their Europa League final showdown against Arsenal.

The Stamford Bridge dwellers qualified for the Europa League final in dramatic fashion after seeing off Eintracht Frankfurt in a penalty shootout at Stamford Bridge on Thursday evening, May 9.

Chelsea will battle Arsenal in Baku on May 29 after Gunners saw off Valencia in the other semi-final.
