The national coordinator of Muhammadu Buhari/Osinbajo (MBO) campaign group, Hon. Usman Ibrahim, has urged Senator Ali Ndume not to withdraw from Senate presidency race.
In an interview with Leadership on Sunday, March 31 in Abuja, Ibrahim who hails from Borno Central senatorial district said that it was the desire of the Borno people that Ndume becomes the next Senate president.
Ibrahim said that their group would hold a rally in Abuja metropolis to publicly demonstrate its support for Ndume’s aspiration, adding that the lawmaker deserves compensation for his loyalty and sacrifices he had made for the Buhari administration.

His words: “This is a person who was so vocal and vehemently opposed the outgoing Senate President Bukola Saraki in his bid to frustrate President Buhari administration by delaying the approval of some key appointments and passage of even the appropriation bills.
“Saraki removed him as Senate leader and installed Senator Lawan who he considered as his ally since he was always into hide-and-seek game while Ndume was in the trenches fighting Saraki. He was also suspended for almost a year because of President Buhari.”
Also, Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi (Kaduna North) told journalists at the weekend that the endorsement of a sole candidate for the post of Senate president was undemocratic.
He said that the endorsement can’t work because the post of the Senate president or Speakership was not by appointment neither are they members of the cabinet.
Senator Hunkuyi, who was elected on the APC platform, but defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), averred that the constitution provides that only the 109 senators-elect and 360 members of the House of Representatives-elect are empowered to decide who their leaders should be through elections that are conducted through secret balloting system.
Meanwhile, the Buhari-Osinbajo North East Support Groups have endorsed Senator Ndume's quest to be the next Senate President in the 9th National Assembly.

The groups said they are confident that Ndume-led National Assembly will collaborate with the Executive to take Nigeria to the next level.
The groups in a statement signed by their coordinator, Hon. Salisu Sabo said supporters of President Muhammadu Buhari and APC stakeholders from the six states in the North-east are canvassing for Senator Ndume.
