Family of 2 kids, 9 others die in Bauchi road crash

- A family of two children and several others died in a motor accident in Bauchi state on Sunday, March 31

- The accident that claimed their lives happened when the family's Toyota Camry had a collision with another vehicle

- Six people survived with various degrees of injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment

A family of two children and several others lost their lives in a ghastly motor accident on Gombe-Bauchi road on Sunday, March 31.

Jamal Yari who is the father, Amina the wife and their two children named Adnan and Affan got involved in the road accident when their Toyota Camry when their vehicle collided with another vehicle near Bishi village, Daily Trust reports.

There were buried immediately after a funeral rite held for them at the Bauchi Emir’s Palace.

Six other survivors are presently receiving treatment at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi.

Kamal Datti Abubakar, the spokesman of the state police command, confirmed that the incident happened.

He said that 13 people were confirmed dead at ATBUTH while six others sustained various degrees of injuries are on admission.

In his words: “The accident occurred when the two vehicles were coming towards opposite direction and on reaching a point along the road, they had a head-on collision. As a result, all the 19 passengers from the two vehicles were injured.

“The victims were then immediately moved from the scene by security agents with the assistance of good Samaritans to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital for treatment.

“Meanwhile, up to the time of this release, names and addresses of some of the victims are still unknown. It is on this note the command calls on members of the public. whose family members travelled along that road and are still unable to reach them, to check at the ATBU Teaching Hospital, please.”

Recall that Legit.ng previously reported that the minister of power, works and housing, Babatunde Fashola, said that bad roads are not the reasons for injuries and accidents on the highways but carefree road users.

The minister said road accidents are largely caused by over-speed and the carelessness of drivers as bad roads are not good for speedy driving.

Fashola said this in Abuja at a workshop on the five United Nations’ convention on road traffic agreed to by Nigeria.
