Virgil Van Dijk has also helped the Reds defence line become stronger since his arrival at Anfield last year.

The £75m-rated defender was among six players that include Sterling, Sadio Mane, Eden Hazard, Sergio Aguero and Bernardo Silva, nominated for the. PFA Players' Player of the Year award

Interestingly, the Dutch star has exhibited top class defending as a centre-back, even as he had played with the Joe Gomes and Joel Matip in the heart of Liverpool defence.

The Reds have only lost one Premier League fixture this term with Virgil Van Dijk in action, and have let in 20 goals which is the least number in the English topflight.

Van Dijk becomes the first defender to win the award since John Terry in 2005.

Earlier, the Liverpool defence ace disclosed that he had voted for City’s Sterling for the PFA award.

However, on the other hand, Sterling opted to vote for England forward Harry Kane.

"It's nice to be recognised on that front but, to be honest, if we don't win the Premier League, I don't really want to be in contention.

"What I want to do is win the Premier League, win the FA Cup, then think about stuff like that, even though the awards are before that. Without that, it doesn't mean much to me, really.

"I voted for Harry Kane. My vote for him is because he scores so many goals every year, he does so much for the team, gives so much for his team.

"There was a lot of talk about Virgil van Dijk. I knew he would have a lot of the votes, so I looked at someone I thought being around him in the national team, how he puts in his work, his work ethic, how he looks after himself,” ff like that, the City forward summed up.

"He's always there, especially coming back from injury, as a professional I looked at him and that's my reason for voting for him, seeing him on a day-to-day with the national team."

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Chelsea star Eden Hazard has been listed among Premier League stars for the 2018-2019 PFA player of the year.

According to the lists of nominees made public on Saturday, April 20, the Belgian who has netted 16 times and registered 12 assists in the English topflight so far is the only Chelsea player on the list.

But the pair of Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and Tottenham’s Heung-Min Son are other top performers this campaign missing from the list voted by the players themselves.
