The Lagos state command of the Nigeria Police Force has said operatives of the command barricaded the venue of a political rally in the state on Thursday, February 28, to prevent hoodlums from hijacking the programme.
The disclosure was made by the command's spokesperson, Chike Oti, who said the action by the police was not politically motivated, The Cable reports.
Legit.ng gathers that the spokesperson said the command received a distress call that hoodlums were planning to disrupt the event after which it immediately swift to action to prevent it.

Activists under the Orange Movement were said to have converged at Airport Hotel in Ikeja area of Lagos around 11am on Thursday, February 28.
Report has it that while the group was strategising on how to stop the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, from having his way in the March 9 gubernatorial election in Lagos, the venue of the rally was invaded by heavily armed policemen.
Oti said: “What we did was to respond to security threats distress call at the venue of the programme.
“We got credible information that hoodlums were planning to hijack the programme to unleash violence on those expected to attend.
“We cannot sit back to allow any breach of security, we intervened to prevent criminals from gaining access so that the programme could hold peacefully.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Bola Tinubu on Wednesday, February 27, urged Nigerians to look forward to the next four years with hope and hands ready to work.
Tinubu made the call in a statement made available to newsmen in Lagos by his media officer, Tunde Rahman.
The former Lagos state governor was reacting to the outcome of the February 23 presidential and National Assembly elections.
