10-man Dream Team VII suffer defeat in AFCON U-23 qualifier against Libya

- Libya vs Nigeria saw the home side beat Nigeria's Dream Team VII 2-0 at the Stade de Ben Guerdane

- Zakaria Alharaish netted the opener in the first half before Nigeria’s goalkeeper Adamu Abubakar was sent off

- The north Africans doubled their lead in the second stanza to finish the contest 2-0 ahead of Monday's reverse fixture in Asaba

Libya U23 side defeated Nigeria’s Dream Team VII 2-0 in the first leg of AFCON U23 qualifying match on Wednesday, March 20, at the Stade de Ben Guerdane in Tunisia.

The encounter saw coach of the side Imama Amapakabo parade an all foreign-based midfielders that include Arsenal's Kelechi Nwakali, Liverpool's Taiwo Awoniyi, Villareal's Samuel Chukwueze among others from the start of the game.

The Libyans netted the seven minutes after the commencement of hostilities through forward Zakaria Alharaish after a fast counter-attacking move.

The Nigerian side tried to get back to the contest, but their host contested every ball, and did not give the Dream Team VII room to play their game.

And in the closing moments of the first stanza, Nigeria’s goalkeeper Adamu Abubakar was shown a straight red card for handling the ball outside the penalty area.

After the explosion, the technical crew scarified Dennis Bonaventure for reverse goalie Orewale Oremade to mind the goal.

However, the Dream Team VII lost confidence, but somehow managed to keep the score at one goal until the first stanza.

In the second stanza, it was tougher for the Nigerian side to curtain the Libyans, who were enjoying the one-man advantage as the expense of the Dream Team VII.

After much pressure, the Libyans doubled their advantage with the second goal of the contest with another counter-attack that left the Nigerian defence grasping for breath.

Despite other scoring moments the Imama Amapakabo tutored-side managed not to concede further goals and at the blast of the final whistle the scoreboard read Libya 2-0 Nigeria.

A performance that leaves Dream Team VII with a herculean task in the reverse fixture on Monday, March 25 at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Super Eagles stars were in top shape as they kicked-off their training session in grand style ahead of their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final qualifying game against Seychelles and Egypt friendly.

Reports via Super Eagles official Twitter handle, revealed that all 23 players invited for the match took active part during the session at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.
