DSS wants to arrest me because I have documents showing Buhari’s ministers didn’t fully disclose their assets - CUPP spokesman alleges

- The spokesman of the CUPP, Imo Ugochinyere, has alleged that there is a plan by operatives of the DSS to arrest him

- Ugochinyere said his problem stemmed from the fact that opposition parties had gotten hold of copies of asset declaration forms of some members of the Buhari administration, including Ibe Kachikwu

- The CUPP spokesman said the government wants to stop him from releasing the documents, as they show that the affected ministers did not fully disclose their assets

Imo Ugochinyere, the first national spokesperson, Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has raised an alarm over an alleged plan by the Department of State Services (DSS) to arrest him.

At a press conference in Abuja, the nation’s capital, the CUPP spokesman claimed that the DSS planned to arrest him and keep him away until the conclusion of the forthcoming elections, Punch reports.

Ugochinyere said his problem stemmed from the fact that opposition parties had gotten hold of copies of asset declaration forms of some top government officials, including that of Ibe Kachikwu, the minister of state for petroleum resources. He said the security agency wanted to stop him from releasing the documents.

He further claimed that he had been earlier approached on the need to reduce his opposition to the President Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government.

He said: “It is important that the world take note of this. Just about two hours ago, I was informed the DSS had perfected arrangements to arrest me any moment from now.

“It is important that I tell the world the reason behind this move. I have been approached by people in government to reduce the level of my opposition to government, but I cannot betray the trust of the people.

“The problem is that they are aware that the opposition parties are in possession of asset declaration forms of key members of the administration, especially that of the minister of state, petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu.

“What they want to do is to stop me from releasing those documents.”

According to Ugochinyere, a review of the forms showed that the affected ministers did not fully disclose their assets.

He claimed that the government did not want such documents published because that was the same reason cited to suspend Justice Walter Onnoghen, the chief justice of Nigeria.
