The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has condemned President Buhari for his controversial statement of how the security agencies will deal with anyone attempting to steal ballot boxes on election day.
CUPP described President Buhari's comment as the most callous ever from any Nigerian president and accused him and the ruling party, APC, of giving licence to thugs to go on rampage on election date, Tribune reports.
CUPP, in a statement by its first national spokesperson, Ikenga Ugochinyere, also described the emergency caucus meeting of the APC on Monday, February 18, as a panicky measure to hatch evil plans.

Ugochinyere said: “Nigerians must note that the live coverage of the so-called caucus meeting was meant to achieve a dual purpose. First to give impetus to all APC thugs that since the president endorsed all the shenanigans of the ruling party, that they should go on a rampage and also to give instructions to security forces publicly to execute any citizen who tries to stop the rigging machine jointly being executed by the military.
“The president was unambiguous in his call that citizens should be shot dead extra judicially if they ever tried to stop the security forces from rigging the elections. That is the most callous public statement ever by a Nigerian president. It must be condemned by all well-meaning citizens and the international community. President Buhari must be held personally responsible for the loss of many lives due to the instructions he has given to the security forces."

Buhari had in an earlier report warned that those planning to make away with ballot boxes during the elections will do so at the cost of their lives.
Speaking on Monday, February 18, at a crucial meeting of the APC, the president stated that anyone who engages in the act will not live to commit another crime.
President Buhari ordered the police and the military to show no mercy to party thugs who try to cart away ballot boxes.
He expressed confidence over the coming polls, saying that he has toured throughout the country to garner support from all the states. He also urged party members to work for the interest of the APC, especially during the elections.
