Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano state has restated that its government is committed to paying the new minimum wage of N30,000 with additional N600.
The Kano state governor said this when members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) staged a peaceful protest to the government house on Tuesday, January 8, in Kano, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
Legit.ng gathers that Governor Ganduje, who was represented by his deputy, Nasiru Gawuna, said the welfare of the civil servants in the state is his administration’s top priority.

He said Kano state was among the few states in the country that pay monthly salary on time.
His words: “We are ready to pay N30,000 monthly salary because welfare of our workers is paramount to anything and we will always give it preference.
“We will pay the N30,600 as soon as all processes are completed.”
The Kano state governor further urged women and youths to stay away from drug abuse and addiction due to their harmful effects to health.
He said: “Our women, particularly married women and youths must say no to drug abuse and addiction. They should stop abusing it because it will ultimately damage their systems and cut short their lives.”
The NLC chairman in the state, Kabiru Minjibir, had earlier commended the governor for his commitment to pay the minimum wage of N30,600.
He said: “We are not surprised for this kind gesture taking into consideration your labour friendly disposition.
“We also urge your excellency to convey our polite gesture to your co-governors to enlighten the public on new national minimum wage and its speedy enactment into law.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state said if he had the capacity, he would pay the state workers above N30,000 as minimum wage.
Ortom stated this on Tuesday, January 8, in Makurdi while addressing members of the NLC.
Members of the union embarked on a peaceful protest to express their grievances over the delay in the implementation of the new national minimum wage of N30,000.
The governor, who sympathised with the workers, said the state cannot afford to pay the new wage.
He, however, stated that the present N18,000 minimum wage was no longer enough due to the economic situation.
