Buni Gari town in Gujba local government area of Yobe state was on Saturday, December 29, reportedly attacked by suspected Boko Haram insurgents, less than 30 days after a similar attack on the town.
Daily Trust reports that the attack on the town located less than 4 kilometres to the 27 taskforce brigade, and about 53 kilometres to Damaturu, the state capital, started around 6pm on Saturday with sporadic gunshots and houses being set ablaze by the terrorists.

Residents said the attack by the group was a reprisal after hunters earlier killed two Boko Haram members who came to the town to forcefully take away a woman they claimed to be their wife
“The woman was married to a resident, so the hunter resisted; they killed two, caught and handed over one to military, while the other one escaped. The incident happened 20 days after the insurgents attacked and killed 8 soldiers at the military base,” he said.

Survivors of the attack said over 2,000 women, children and men fleed to the bush to escape the insurgents after they got prior knowledge that the terrorists were planning to attack the town.
Meanwhile, the chief of defence staff, Gen. Abayomi Olanisakin accompanied by the chief of air ataff, Air Marshal Abubakar Sadique and chief of naval staff, Rear Admiral Ibot-Ette Ibas, on Saturday paid operational visit to the Theatre Command in Maiduguri.
They were as usual received by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, who had been on ground in the Military Command and Control Centre.
The CDS and the other service chiefs had paid a similar visit to the command exactly a week ago. Olanisakin held more than four hours closed door meeting with the service chiefs, Theatre Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, Chiefs of Training and Operations from the Defence Headquarters, Army, Navy, Air Force and field commanders.
