Gunmen storm OAU hostel, kill 300 level student

- A student of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun state, identified as Abiodun Babalola, has been killed by unknown gunmen

- Babalola was killed on Saturday, December 22, wen gunmen attacked his hostel in the early hours of Saturday, December 22

- The spokesperson of the institution, Abiodun Olanrewaju, confirmed the killing on Sunday, December 23

A 300 level accounting student of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun state, identified as Abiodun Babalola, has been killed by gunmen, who attacked his hostel in the early hours of Saturday, December 22.

Premium Times reports that the killing was confirmed in a statement on Sunday, December 23, by the university's spokesperson, Abiodun Olanrewaju.

Legit.ng gathers that Olanrewaju said Abiodun died as a result of injuries he sustained during an attack on the Adam and Eve hostel, an out of campus students’ residential hostel, along Parakin – Ede road axis of Ile-Ife.

According to the spokesperson, the gunmen attacked students and inflicted varying degrees of injuries on them before carting away with their money, phones and other valuables.

The statement read: “The authorities of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile – Ife, have condoled with the parents and family members of a part three student of the Department of Accounting of the University, Abiodun Babalola, who died as a result of injuries he sustained during an attack on the Adam and Eve, an out of campus students residential hostel, along Parakin – Ede road axis of Ile Ife.

The vice chancellor of the university, Eyitope Ogunbodede, expressed agony at the loss of the 300 level student. Ogunbodede, who wondered why people would attack, maim and kill their fellow man, said the fear of God should be placed above worldly materials.

The statement added: “He, thereafter, on behalf of the Council, Senate, Staff, Students and the entire University Community, prayed that the Lord would grant eternal rest to the late Abiodun Babalola and the parents and family members the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that a police woman and her three children died in a mysterious manner in Osogbo, Osun state, on Thursday, November 29.

The woman who was a police sergeant, and two of her children, were found dead in their house located at Oja-Oba area in Osogbo, while two other children were found gasping for breath and were subsequently rushed to different hospitals.

While the last born, who was about 4-month-old, was taken to the police clinic in Osogbo, the other child was taken to the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital in Ile-Ife.
