Former Ekiti state governor, Ayodele Fayose, has urged Governor Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar of Zamfara state to return home and stand in defense of the people of his state.
In reaction to the recent killings in the state, Fayose said the governor should not be abroad when there is a spate of killings by armed bandits and high level of insecurity.

This was contained in a statement released on Tuesday, December 25. The statement read: “I’m aware that the governor is abroad and I advise that he should return home.
“This is the time for him to be a man and stand in defense of his people rather than standing with their oppressors.”
In a series of tweets, Fayose also accused the federal government of plotting to hide under the killings to impose emergency rule on the state.
According to him, there will only be presidential and National Assembly elections in Zamfara in February 2019 while other elections will be postponed till May.

He called on the federal government to apologise to the people of Zamfara for failing to protect them.
Fayose reminded the APC-led government that the administration of Goodluck Jonathan did not dismantle democratic institutions.
Recall that on Wednesday, December 19, suspected armed bandits stormed three communities in Birnin Magaji local government area of Zamfara state, killing many residents. Some of those killed were reportedly working on their farms when they were attacked.
The armed bandits who were said to have come heavily armed opened fire on the farmers who were harvesting sweet potatoes at Garin Haladu community.

President Buhari had, on Monday, December 24, expressed sorrow over the loss of lives following attacks on communities in Zamfara by bandits and cattle rustlers and assured that the federal government would do everything in its powers to end the horrendous attacks.
