EFCC planning to arrest Atiku, Obi ahead of 2019 elections - PDP claims

- The PDP claims that some key members of the party including associates of Atiku Abubakar and those of his running mate, Peter Obi, will soon be arrested by the EFCC

- The PDP national chairman, Uche Secondus, alleges that he has been penned down for arrest alongside Bukola Saraki and Yakubu Dogara, on frame up charges

- Secondus cautions the EFCC chairman, Ibrahim Magu, against taking any action that could drag the country into crisis

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has alleged key members of the party including Atiku Abubakar and his running mate, Peter Obi, have been marked for arrest by the EFCC ahead of the 2019 general elections.

The PDP national chairman, Uche Secondus, made the allegation on Monday, December 10, in a statement issued through Ike Abonyi, his special adviser on media.

Secondus claimed that also marked for arrests by the anti-graft commission were key members of the party and associates of Atiku and Obi, Daily Trust reports.

The party warned the EFCC chairman, Ibrahim Magu against taking any action that could cause drag the country into crisis

"The country is in a keg of gunpowder at the moment as a result of your (Magu) hatchet job for the ruling government and I warn you to get away from this illegitimate job of using instruments of state to harass and intimidate opponents,” Secondus said.

The PDP claimed that the said arrest of its party members was a plot by the EFCC to undermine democracy in Nigeria .

“The PDP National Chairman chides Magu and other characters of his type who are willing to assist the APC in undermining democracy, to look back at history and know that the consequences are always not palatable,” Secondus said.

Meanwhile, the presidency has dismissed the story about the raid “ordered by Buhari-led government” on the home of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)'s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar’s son as fake news.

Malam Garba Shehu, the senior special assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on media and publicity, in a statement in Abuja on Monday, December 10, also described as untrue the fairy tale on the alleged blockage of the bank accounts of Atiku Abubakar’s running mate, Peter Obi and his family, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

He said these stories should be dismissed “as just another manifestation of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP’s growing expertise in fake news’’.
