President Muhammadu Buhari has warned Nigerians against expecting handouts from politicians across the country.
Speaking at the Godswill Akpabio stadium Uyo, Akwa Ibom state during the south south All progressives Congress presidential rally, President Buhari said Nigeria would have to struggle in the years ahead.
Punch reports that the president said: “There are no more handouts; Nigeria will have to struggle for the years ahead."
The president said Nigeria would eventually win the war against insurgency in the northeast, and pledged that his administration would improve the economy and tackle unemployment.
“I am standing here to express my gratitude to you for organising this get-together for the campaign against next year.
“If you could recall, in 2015 we based our campaign fundamentally on three points of security, corruption and building the economy and I want those who want to challenge us at any level to doubt our contributions towards our undertakings
“Firstly, insecurity in the northeast has almost been won in the sense that when we came, we met Boko Haram in about 17 local governments in Borno and Yobe states.
Now, they are not physically holding any local government, but they resorted to indoctrinating our young ones, especially girls; they braced them up in explosives and instruct them to expose themselves in churches, in mosques, market places and motor parts but I assure you that we are going to clear them off in our county," Buhari said.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and his party have questioned the motive for the inclusion of two billionaire businessmen, Aliko Dangote and Femi Otedola in the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council.
Atiku and the PDP described the move as an act of desperation on the part of President Muhammadu Buhari and the ruling APC.
