The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Bauchi has vowed to monitor campaign spending by political parties’ candidates vying for various elective offices in the state.
This was disclosed by the head of election and party monitoring unit in the state's INEC headquarters, Ahmed Alhaji Waziri.
Daily Trust reports that the INEC chief made the dicosure during the signing of peace accord by governorship aspirants in the state over the weekend.

He said the commission would liaise with relevant government agencies like the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) as well as commercial banks to monitor monetary transactions by political parties and their candidates.
According to him, the move was to ensure compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2010 (as amended) which pegged the amount a candidate could spend during campaign and what he could receive as donation from individuals, groups or other sources.
“Let me use this opportunity to inform both the political parties and their candidates, that as you are running your campaigns, the commission is tracking your campaign expenses to ensure compliance in relations to the sources, limitation of expenses and others as provided by the electoral act,” he said.

Meawhile, INEC at the national level is under pressure to grant international and local observers access to its situation room during the 2019 general elections.
Opposition figures are insisting that the INEC opens its doors to observers for the sake of transparency, saying it has become timperative because of President Muhammadu Buhari’s refusal to assent to the Electoral Act Amendment Bill and alleged manipulations during the Osun state gubernatorial election.
