Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has disclosed that 20 new APC governorship candidates and nine sitting governors would contest for governorship positions in the 2019 general elections.

He made the disclosure during a consultative meeting the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party had with 2019 election governorship candidates, state chairmen and state secretaries at its national secretariat in Abuja on Thursday, December 6, Daily Trust reports.

Legit.ng gathers that Oshiomhole advised the governorship candidates against berating their predecessors’ achievements and advised them not to work at cross purpose during the campaigns.

He further chided those claiming there were no primaries, describing them as agents of the opposition who are not looking for solutions.

He said: “I am aware that we have some instances where some people have to go to court. And they are in two parts. There are some who are asking the court to declare them as the winner. It will be subjudice for me to comment on such matters or cases.

“But, where people are going to court to claim that there were no primaries, such persons are not looking for solutions. Such persons are more or less agents of opposition. Because, if the courts were to uphold their prayers, it means our party will have no candidate in such states. And the implication is that opposition will win such state.

“So, we have to distinguish between those who are in court in pursuance of justice and those being sponsored particularly in states where APC do not have sitting governors. Their sitting governors from those states are working with them to ensure they are unopposed.

“We must identify the challenge we all have to share and try to see that we take pre-emptive steps to prevent people from within from being used to sabotage our candidates in many of those states that we may have issues.”

He urged the state chairmen to work closely with all the candidates by ensuring preference was not given to only the governorship election.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo lambasted the national chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, describing him as a political liability who is on a mission to destroy the ruling party.

Okorocha’s comments were in response to a statement credited to Oshiomhole that the Imo governor and his Ogun state counterpart, Ibikule Amosun, are political liabilities who only have one vote, each.

The governor, speaking through his commissioner for information, Patrick Nzeh, described Oshiomhole as a victim of his own actions.
