Former All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential aspirant, Chief Charles Udeogaranya, on Sunday, December 23, defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Vanguard reports.
Chief Udeogaranya who announced his defection at a rally in Lagos, said he secured the mandate of his supporters to make the move ahead of the 2019 general elections.
He said his new party, the PDP is ready to take back control of power at the centre as well as the states he described as PDP traditional states.
He also commended Nigerians across board for their overwhelming support and solidarity with the repositioned PDP.

His words: “The interests and movements from the APC to the PDP are indicators of the consensus by Nigerians to rally on the platform of the PDP to end the economic hardship, bloodletting, violence and infrastructural decay that have become the hallmark of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led APC administration and return Nigeria to the path of unity, national cohesion and economic prosperity.”
Udeogaranya's defection is unlikely to have any effect on the APC as he is largely unknown in Nigeria's political circles.
Meanwhile, the All Grassroots Alliance (AGA) presidential candidate, Chuks Nwachukwu, has dragged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) before a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, asking that President Muhammadu Buhari be disqualified from seeking re-election in 2019 for failing to produce his authentic certificate.
Nwachukwu, in the suit, is contending that INEC was not legally competent to recognise Buhari as the candidate of APC, for next year’s general election, having failed to produce the credentials to which he lays claim.

The plaintiff said it was rather ironic that Buhari only submitted an affidavit claiming that his certificate was with the Nigerian Army to which he is the Grand Commander, while the same institution had publicly debunked such claim of being in possession of the academic credentials of the president.
