Senator Florence Ita-Giwa, a former presidential adviser on National Assembly matters, and a one-time ambassador of Nigeria to Mali, Chief Soni Abang, were among some top members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who moved to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday, November 15.
The others who defected include a former member of the House of Representatives, Chief Enerst Irek, and thousands of their supporters.
This Day reports that the defectors were received at a rally held at the Calabar Municipal Grounds.

Chief Uche Secondus, the national chairman of the PDP, said at the rally: “These men who have come back today, went to the APC thinking it was a party but rather it was a collection of wicked, greedy, heartless and vengeance taking people who meted out hunger in the land.
“I can tell you that these people have seen it all in the APC. On behalf of our presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, as well as the National Working Committee (NWC) of our party, let me tell you that we are on a mission to rescue Nigeria.”
The report quoted Ita-Giwa as saying she dumped the APC because she was not happy over the crises that had hit the party as well as the alleged ill-treatment of some top members.
“There are a few many things I cannot understand about the APC and it is for this reason that I have chosen to return to my original party the PDP,” Ita-Giwa said as she added that her exposure makes her have a good understanding of how politics works or should work in Nigeria.
She, however, lamented that the APC had thrown up some posers that she cannot, with all her political experience, decipher.
The former presidential aide promised to work very hard to deliver her state in 2019.

Abang, a former chairman of the PDP in Cross River state, said his return to the party was because he had missed the political organisation.
Abang, who joined the APC in 2015, said he was happy to return to the PDP as he described the governor of the state, Ben Ayade, as a wonderful person.
In January, 2018, Legit.ng reported that Senator Florence Ita-Giwa on Monday, January 21, declared that she has no intention of leaving APC.
Ita-Giwa said she was committed to APC, adding that she would ensure its success at the polls next year.
