- The lawmakers endorsed Ganduje’s re-election bid despite his ongoing investigation over bribery allegation
- The federal lawmakers also said that the governor and President Buhari would emerge victorious in 2019
Following the viral video showing Governor Umar Ganduje receiving money from some contractors, some members of the National Assembly from Kano state on Thursday, November 29, declared their support for the state governor ahead of the 2019 elections.
Legit.ng gathered that the federal lawmakers endorsed the governor’s re-election bid despite his ongoing investigation by the state House of Assembly over bribery allegation.
The lawmakers (two senators and 14 members of the House of Representatives) noted the governor and President Muhammadu Buhari would emerge victorious in the elections, adding that some members of the ruling APC who were close to the presidency were working against the interests of the governor and the president.

In a statement jointly signed, the federal lawmakers passed a vote of confidence on the governor, but however refused to answer questions on the bribery allegation, saying the case was in court.
The statement reads: “As major stakeholders in Kano State, we hereby state unequivocally that Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje has performed creditably well in the saddle of ‘captainship’ of the state and has therefore earned our unalloyed support and vote of confidence.
“We hereby enjoin him not to be distracted by the agents of darkness but to keep up the good works he is doing in Kano State.
“No amount of blackmail and subterfuge can obliterate the excellent work that Dr. Ganduje has done and is still doing in Kano State. All hands must therefore be on deck to support Governor Ganduje to win his re-election in 2019 in order to continue his good works in the state.
“Finally, we call on the opposition and their selfish collaborators in our government to desist from toeing the devilish path of character assassination and outright falsehood and embrace issue-based campaigns as we approach the 2019 elections.”
