- Governor Samuel Ortom says since leaving the APC, he has been able to pay salaries of workers in Benue state
- Ortom says he will not be intimidated by the EFCC as the anti-graft agency continues with some investigations
- The governor, however, agrees to face the law if his administration is found wanting even though he is not scared
The governor of Benue state, Samuel Ortom, on Tuesday, November 14, alleged that the country’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has become a department in the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ortom insisted that the EFCC is bias in its fight against corruption.
Daily Trust reports that Ortom made the allegation while swearing-in nine new commissioners who replaced those sacked in August 2018.

The governor said he will not succumb to any intimidation by the anti-graft agency.
“Despite intimidation from the EFCC that has become a department in APC, we are not going to be intimidated.
“In the past few months, civil servants working with me are being troubled for no just cause.
“Once you decamp from APC, EFCC comes after you. Fighting corruption should not be selective,” he said.
The governor alleged that the EFCC had been investigating members of a committee for the burial of the late Tor Tiv over the spending of N120 million.
Ortom said the amount was used as “burial and settling of the deceased family."
“If we do anything wrong we are ready to face the law. But we will not succumb to intimidation,” he said adding that his administration could now pay workers’ salaries as and when due because he had detached himself from godfatherism.
Governor Ortom said since he left the APC for the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), he had done well with payment of salaries and no longer under undue pressure to satisfy the caprices of certain ‘men’.
“There is no godfatherism again in Benue under my watch. That is why you can see that since I detached myself from godfather, even salary I have been able to pay as at when due.

“I’m seeking for other ways in offsetting the remaining arrears of salaries.
“Since I left APC, I have been paying salaries. In APC, godfathers will not allow me but now I’m a free man,” he said.
Legit.ng earlier reported how Samuel Ortom vowed to resist any attempt to rig the 2019 general election in the state.
The governor made this pledge on Monday, November 12, when he hosted the campaign team of a former governorship aspirant in the state, Dave Ioremba, at the government house
