Senator Shehu Sani, representing Kaduna central senatorial district, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to clarify his stand on whether he support Governor Nasir El-Rufai's choice of a Muslim as a running mate for 2019.
Sani, who recently defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC), said he doubted that President Buhari would support a Muslim-Muslim ticket when he himself chose a Christian, Yemi Osinbajo, as his running mate, Daily Trust reports.

Recall that El-Rufai recently said consulted President Buhari and received his support to choose Dr Hadiza Balarabe, a Muslim, as his running mate for 2019 governorship election in Kaduna.
However, Sani, who called out the president on his Twitter page said the find it puzzling that President Buhari would support a Muslim-Muslim ticket.
He tweeted: “President’s name is dragged into the politics of manipulation of religion in Kaduna state, there’s the need for him to make a public clarification.
“It’s puzzling that a President who has always respected religious sensitivities, when nominating his vice could have recommended otherwise for Kaduna.”

Legit.ng earlier reported that Ahmad Gumi, a popular Islamic cleric based in Kaduna state, also warned that the culture and political environment in Kaduna state does not support a Muslim governorship candidate choosing a fellow Muslim as his deputy.
The cleric said such a Muslim-Muslim governorship ticket could escalate tension in the violence-prone state.
