A new initiative, DOS support group, arrow headed by a group of young professionals have been designed to seek the democratization of campaign funding while ensuring a level playing field for all candidates irrespective of party lines and ideological leanings ahead of the 2019 general elections.
Legit.ng gathered that the initiative is an online structure that would transparently seek to attract retail campaign funding from the massive potential donor community online and then direct the funds towards credible aspirants vying for political offices.
According to the promoters, these funds would go to all aspirants no matter the party lines of ideological affiliation depending on the choice of the donor or contributor.
The structure is such that interested aspirants after having secured their tickets and have been duly recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) can upload their details including a one minute video on their aspirations, campaign manifesto and general bio on the platform.

Interested donors are then expected to go through the details and if okay with it, donate funds which would go directly to the aspirants given account.
According to a spokesman of the DOSsupport Group, Joseph Edgar, the process has been designed to ensure maximum transparency along stated INEC guidelines on campaign funding.
He said the platform takes a minimum N1,000 contribution and a maximum N10,000 ensuring a level and better dispersed community of donors thereby opening up the system to wider possibilities.
He further opined that interested observers can transparently see how much each candidate has attracted, view not only details of the aspirants but also gauge the popularity or otherwise of aspirants across party lines and positions nationwide.
The platform amongst others provides a veritable platform for monitoring and assessment of performance of politicians after leveraging on it to secure the all-important campaign contributions.
This according to Edgar would amongst others increase participation in the political process, boost transparency of the process, push for more monitoring and much more importantly seek to level the field especially in the area of access to funds.
He also revealed that an effective risk management structure have been built around the structure to protect its integrity, ensure internationally accepted corporate governance statutes and further ensure maximum transparency of the whole process.
He said the portal is already live and aspirants have already started uploading their details.

Meanwhile, on Monday, November 5, INEC said it had removed over 300,000 names from its voter register, as it continues its preparations for the 2019 general elections.
The commission also revealed that from Tuesday, November 6, to Monday, November 12, it would display the voter register in the 120,000 polling units nationwide for Nigerians to scrutinise and raise objections, if any.
INEC chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, disclosed this when he received a delegation of ECOWAS pre-election fact finding mission, led by the chairman of Sierra Leone’s National Electoral Commission, Mohamed Conteh, in Abuja.
