Securing Leah Sharibu’s freedom, more important than campaigning for 2019 - Christian coalition tells FG

- The Coalition of Christian Groups for Good-Governance has told the federal govt to focus its energy on securing Leah Sharibu’s release instead of campaigning for 2019

- It said nothing should stop the military from combing the hideouts of the terrorists and freeing Leah Sharibu and others in Boko Haram captivity

- The coalition also resolved to form a strategic partnership to foster good governance in the country

The federal government has been advised by the Coalition of Christian Groups for Good-Governance (Nigeria and the Diaspora), to intensify efforts to secure the release of Leah Sharibu, instead of intensifying its campaign for reelection in 2019.

The socio-political organization made its call in a communiqué issued after its extraordinary meeting which held in Lagos. It was signed by its president, Daniel Kadzai, and national secretary, Bola Alawode, Punch reports.

NAIJ.com gathers that the CCCG lamented that the spate of killings in the country had continued, months after US President Donald Trump demanded the stoppage of killings of Christians and the release of Miss Sharibu.

It stated that “nothing should stop the military from combing the hideouts of the terrorists and freeing Leah Sharibu and others in Boko Haram captivity,” if the government could deploy a Special Squad from Maiduguri to look for a missing former chief of administration in the Nigerian Army, Gen Mohammad Alkali (retd.).

The CCCG said: “The government has on many occasions promised to release Leah Sharibu but to no avail. How can you secure freedom for 104 in 30 days but will not secure freedom for just one child in eight months?

“Leah Sharibu and many more in captivity should be the first priority of the Nigerian government, not desperate campaigns going on.”

The organization also reviewed the various presidential candidates who have emerged from various political parties, and resolved to form a strategic partnership to foster good governance in the country.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that President Muhammadu Buhari vowed to do everything possible to ensure Leah Sharibu, one of the over 100 schoolgirls kidnapped by the Boko Haram insurgents in Dapchi, Yobe state, earlier in the year, will be rescued.

While all her other schoolmates who survived the ordeal have been released by the terrorists, Leah was held back by the Boko Haram for allegedly refusing to denounce her Christian faith.

The president gave the reassurance in a series of tweets.
