- The front-line Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aspirant was in Ebonyi recently to meet with party delegates in the state
- Tambuwal's ambition was hailed by the governor of Ebonyi state and chairman of the South East governors' forum, Dave Umahi
Sokoto state governor, Aminu Tambuwal has began consultations for his presidential aspiration, and Ebonyi state is his first port of call.
The front-line PDP aspirant was in Ebonyi on Friday, September 13, to meet with party delegates in the state ahead of the presidential primary election of the PDP scheduled for next month.
During the visit, governor of Ebonyi state and chairman of the South East governors' forum, Engineer Dave Umahi declared that Tambuwal has all it takes to lead Nigeria.
Governor Umahi who was represented by his deputy, Dr. Kelechi Igwe, said Tambuwal and his presidential campaign team at Government House, Abalaki, o said the former Speaker of the House of Representatives has the leadership qualities to lead Nigeria, especially at a critical time like this.

The governor praised Tambuwal for promoting peace, securing lives and properties as well as ensuring infrastructural development in Sokoto state.
“Your democratic credentials are not questionable, your respect for the rule of law is not in doubt. Your records as the Speaker of House of Representatives and the governor of Sokoto state are obvious and testament of your qualities,” he said.
Igwe said that delegates from the state would follow the directive of Umahi in voting for the presidential candidate of the PDP in Port Harcourt.
Tambuwal told his host and the delegates that he is on a mission to rescue Nigeria from abject poverty, abuse of power and incompetent leadership of the present government of the All Progressives Congress.
He said Nigeria is on its way to another recession as the economy is in comatose without defined direction and policies.
“We have a responsibility to rescue our country from the drifting at the moment. I am sure we know what is going on in Nigeria; we are all feeling the pain of poverty in our country; the absence of the rule of law and the abuse of power by the current administration.
“That is why I said we need to rescue this country from collapsing. What is currently going on in the country is not the best, and must not be allowed to continue. We need leader that has complete knowledge of this country; that will be fair to all, irrespective of where you come from; irrespective of your religion,” the governor said.
He urged the delegates to support his mission by electing him as the presidential candidate of the PDP during the convention in October, promising to provide a credible leadership that will unite the country, promote the economy and protect all.
His words: “This is the time for us to work harder as Nigeria has become a laughing stock in the comity of nations. This is obvious by commentaries and news analysis. We must rescue our country from this slide. The unity of Nigeria is threatened.
“We need a leader that will put aside primordial sentiments, when it comes to getting the best brains to work for the best interest of our country, and when assigning national assignments; all these I will do if you elect me as the candidate of our party, and by the grace of Almighty God the president of Nigeria.”

Meanwhile, the PDP says with the emergence of President Muhammadu Buhari as its sole presidential candidate, “the All Progressives Congress (APC) is now irredeemably doomed for a crushing defeat in the 2019 general elections.”
This was contained in a statement sent to journalists by the party's national publicity secretary, Kola Ologbodiyan, on Thursday, September 13.
The party said: “President Buhari’s fear to contest an elective presidential primary, for which he and a few APC leaders scared away other presidential contestants within their party with threats and high nomination form fees, ended up ruining APC’s chance of fielding a good candidate for the election.”
