A search and rescue team of the Nigerian Army has reportedly recovered 17 additional bodies of gallant Nigerian soldiers who lost their lives while preventing Boko Haram insurgents from overturning their base on Thursday, August 30.
Premium Times reports that the team recovered the remains of one officer and 16 soldiers this weekend in the general area of Mobbar local government area of Borno state.
NAIJ.com gathers that the insurgents reportedly attacked the soldiers at their base in Zari village, north of Maiduguri and near the border with the Republic of Niger.

The bodies were said to have been transferred to Maiduguri, Borno state capital, while efforts have been intensified to rescue the remaining soldiers who are still missing as of the night of Saturday, September 1.
At least two officers and 46 soldiers were said to have been confirmed killed in the attack with the latest recoveries.
Reacting to Premium Times' request to confirm if dozens of troops were killed, a spokesperson for the theatre command in Maiduguri, Colonel Oyema Nwachukwu, said on Saturday, September 1: “I am only aware of aerial bombardment and the response of the ground troops that left many Boko Haram fighters killed
“But I am not aware of soldiers’ casualties and I would not have such information until it gets to my desk.”

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that at least 31 soldiers were reported dead, 19 injured and some others yet to be unaccounted for as Boko Haram insurgents allegedly invaded a base of the Nigerian Army in Borno state on Thursday, August 30.
Scores of Boko Haram fighters were said to have carried out the attack on the base located at Zari, a small community north of Maiduguri and near the border with Niger.
