How ex-IGP Ibrahim Coomassie ordered my arrest, imprisonment in Kirikiri prison - Shehu Sani

- Senator Shehu Sani has revealed how late former IGP, Ibrahim Coomasie, jailed and imprisoned him in 1995

- He said he and the late police boss later became friend after his release from detention

- Sani described the deceased as a patriot and elder statesman

The senator representing Kaduna central, Shehu Sani, on Friday, July 20, revealed how former Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Coomasie, ordered his arrest and signed his detention order in Kirikiri prison, Lagos, in 1995.

Daily Trust reports that he, however, said they later became friends after his release from detention.

NAIJ.com gathered that Sani, a pro-democracy activist before going into politics, said this in a tribute he wrote on his Facebook page in memory of Coomassie who died on Thursday, July 19.

“Dr Ibrahim Coomasie ordered for my arrest and signed my detention order in Kiri Kiri prison, Lagos in 1995. When I was released from prison, he reached out to me and we became ‘friends’ and I related with him as a father. I visited him at home a couple of times and visited him while on his sick bed few weeks ago.

“We lost a patriot, an elder-statesman, a through bred professional and a man ever passionate about his country and his people. May his soul rest in Aljanna", Sani wrote.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had previously reported that a former a Inspector General of Police (IGP), Alhaji Ibrahim Coomassie's death was announced in a tweet on Thursday, July 19, by Saleh Shehu Ashaka, a journalist who works with the VOA.
