- Manchester City are edging closer to landing Italy international Jorginho

- The midfielder is also wanted by fellow Premier League top teams as they all prepare for competition next season

- He has a running contract with his Italian side until the summer of 2020

Premier League champions Manchester City are reportedly leading the race to sign Napoli midfielder Jorginho this summer according to Daily Mail.

The Citizens have been impressive in the English topflight this season, winning the league with five matches to spare and also clinching the EFL trophy in Pep Guardiola’s second season as the manager of the club.

However, the Etihad Stadium outfit are already planning for next term as they seem like the favourites to land the Brazil-born Italian national team player.

Jorginho is also said to be wanted by Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, but his agents have supposedly told them to stay clear of their client.

Pep Guardiola is in search for Yaya Toure’s replacement after the club has confirmed that they will not be handing the Ivorian a new contract this summer. The 34-year-old joined City from Barcelona in 2010.

Meanwhile, the Citizens are also shopping for a long-term successor to 33-year-old Fernandinho, whose contract at the club expires in the summer of 2020.

Liverpool are also said to be interested in landing the 26-year-old, who had an impressive Serie A season with Napoli.

The Italy international joined Napoli from Hellas Verona in 2014 in a deal a little less than €10 million, while his current deal with the club expires in 2020.

He has featured for his side in over 125 matches and he has two goals to his credit – winning the Coppa Italia in and the Italian Super Cup in 2014.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com has earlier reported that Manchester United were in pole position to sign the midfielder once the season wraps up in May.

The 26-year-old attracted the attention of top European clubs this season with his superb performance in all competitions for his club.
