Huddersfield force Chelsea to a draw at Stamford Bridge to destroy the Blues' hopes of finishing among the top four

Chelsea on Wednesday night, May 9, threw away their chances of finishing among the top four at the end of the season when they were forced to a 1-1 draw by visiting Huddersfield.

Huddersfield Town came to Stamford Bridge with the target of winning for them to have the chance of escaping relegation, and they scored the first goal.

There was no goal scored in the first half of this encounter as both sides failed to make use of many chances that came their ways.

The visitors however stunned the home fans when they scored in the 50th minute through Laurent Depoitre who sent Wilfredo Caballero the wrong way.

Alvaro Morata had a superb chance to restore parity for the Blues in the 57th minute, but he was denied by Jones Loessl.

Chelsea eventually got their equalizer in the 62nd minute via a stunning header from Marcos Alonso, but they were unable a get the winning goal as the match ended 1-1.

The result of this match could determine the fate of Chelsea coach Antonio Conte as the Blues are not sure of top four place at the end of the season.

They will have to wait till the last day of the season for them to know their fate.

Earlier, NAIJ.com had reported how Chelsea manager Antonio Conte made it clear that he will be happy if the Blues' board can make public clarification on his future at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues have lost their Premier League title this season to Manchester City who are now the new champions, and there have been news that Conte would leave this summer.

Their only chance of winning a title this season is now in the English FA Cup where they will meet Manchester United in the final on May 19.
