A son to late the Chief Moshood Abiola has said tribalism is the major hindrance to the honouring of June 12 by the Nigerian government.

Jamiu Abiola speaking with Vanguard said the federal government's failure to honour the struggles of his late father at the national level can only be attributed tribalism in Nigeria.

NAIJ.com gathered that Jamiu in his book: "The President That Never Ruled" said honouring June 12 at the national level is essential.

Jamiu added that his parents were instrumental to the democracy enjoyed by Nigerians following sacrifices made.

"It is very significant because without June 12 I would not have become an orphan and Nigeria would not have had democracy in 1999. Without June 12 it would have taken longer for democracy to return to Nigeria. That is what it means to me and every one in Nigeria," Jamiu said.

He urged the federal government to honour June 12 Day like it is being treated in the South-West.

He said: "Chief M.K.O Abiola won the election all over the country and it was not just in the South West alone that he won. But things are done in tribal manner in this country."

Maybe they will have a change of mind, but as far as I am concerned it will be very difficult for them to do so because this country is a tribalistic country.

People look at everything from their own angle instead of national angle. The fact that the man won the election in the whole country means nothing to them because they are not looking at it from a national angle," he added.

NAIJ.com had reported that a Yoruba elder statesman Ayo Adebanjo accused the national leader of the All Progressives Congress Bola Tinubu and other leaders of sabotaging the activities and inclusion of the South-West region in government activities.

Adebanjo said the renewed agitation for the secession of some parts of the country can be attributed to sabotage displayed by these Yoruba leaders.
