“There is tension right now in Sapele. Community leaders are holding meeting over the matter. But we are hearing that the police that killed the man are not the regular police in Sapele but mobile police on special duty to the area.

“The issue is very dicey as there are underground reasons behind the murder of the politician in Sapele.”

The state police public relations officer, Andrew Ani Amaka, confirmed the arrest and detention of the four mobile police officers but added that the detention was not a confirmation that they were found guilty by the police authorities.

According to him: “Like In told you yesterday, Ayomanor was accosted on the way and it was found on him that he was carrying a revolver loaded with cartridges. Of course, the need arose to take him to the station.

“He was driving himself, it was discovered that he wasn’t okay. Right then, it was found that life was ebbing out of him and he needed to be taken to the hospital. So, that that is the situation.

“That there was arrest, yes, but that is not to say they have been found guilty. They were arrested because there is need to keep them. You know autopsy is being conducted and we do not want to prejudge matters.”
