In Borno: NAOWA donates relief materials to IDPs

Buratai prayed for the success of the anti-insurgency military operations in the North East so that the IDPs could return home.

The Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association (NAOWA) on Wednesday donated relief materials worth millions of Naira for the upkeep of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Borno.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports  that NAOWA President, Mrs Umma-Kalsum Buratai presented the items to the displaced persons at the Bakassi IDP camp, Maiduguri.

“NAOWA is in Maiduguri today to put smiles on the faces of the less privilege and the vulnerables by donating relief materials, which included food items and other things."

“We have been doing this kind of things for long;  we have been going from one state to another, trying to look for people in need and helping them,” she said.

Buratai said that the gesture was aimed at complementing government’s efforts in providing care for the IDPs.

“We feel that government alone cannot provide all the needs of the IDPs due to competing demands, that is why we are giving out this token,” she said.

Buratai explained that offering help to the less privilege was part of the objectives of the association.

“NAOWA is a Non-Governmental Organization which main objective is to assist women, widows and unemployed youth, especially barrack boys, with means of livelihood."

“The IDPs are our brothers and sisters and that is why we are here ourselves,” she said.

Buratai prayed for the success of the anti-insurgency military operations in the North East so that the IDPs could return home.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Mrs Buratai was accompanied by the wife of Borno State governor Hajja Nana Shettima as well as the wife of the GOC 7 division of the Nigerian Army Mrs Appolonia Ezugwu.

The NAOWA President also attended the graduation of 2250 IDPs trained in different skills by the association at the Maimalari Cantonment.

Buratai flagged off distribution of empowered kits to the trainees before inaugurating the newly constructed NAOWA Day Care, Nursery and Primary school in the barracks.
