Alero, the first child of the late woman, who spoke from Ekpan police station, where the incident was reported, explained that the allegedly murderer-soldier was taken away by men of the military Joint Task Force (JTF), as against reports that he was arrested.
While explaining further, Alero said:
“They have not arrested the soldier. JTF whisked him away. His colleagues that were at the road block together are now at Warri Area Command. It was my mom that was shot, not my sister that is wedding today. She was coming from the wedding.”
It was about a week ago that, a four-year-old girl died after being shot in the face at home allegedly by her father.
On the other hand, information obtained from the army was totally different from the one narrated by the deceased’s family members.
A high ranking army officer, who pleaded anonymity, from 3 Battalion of the Nigerian army, Effurun Barracks of Delta state, dismissed the allegation, saying nothing of such happened. He said it was a bayonet that was fired that accidentally pierced the woman.
The senior military officer said the soldiers that fired the bayonet have been apprehended by the military for further investigation.
The Delta state police also spoke about the incident, stating that: “It’s not in our place to give an expert opinion on what it really was; whether a gun wound or a bayonet wound.
“It is when they must have done the autopsy that autopsy report will tell us what it really was. But the matter is still under investigation, no arrest has been made yet.”
