A Danfo driver had been remanded in prison for allegedly beating his wife to stupor because she refused to have more children after three kids.

A 'Danfo' (Commercial bus driver), James Obinna, has been arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court sitting in Lagos, for allegedly battering his wife, Ebere, for refusing to have more children after the couple already have three kids.

According to reports, Ebere, a street hawker, had refused her husband's quest to get pregnant again, stating that the harsh economic situation does not warrant having many children that they cannot adequately cater for but that stance was said to have angered her husband who pounced on her and beat her to stupor.

The incident reportedly happened at 26 Babatunde street, Olodi Apapa, where the couple reside.

It was learnt that the Enugu State-born Obinna, found it hard to provide the basic amenities of life for his family, forcing Ebere to resort to street hawking to augment his little income but he has been on her neck to have more children, an idea she rejected and in an attempt to forcefully have sex with her, the woman reportedly fled their apartment in the middle of the night.

In anger, her husband chased her and held her on the street, forcing her to return to their apartment but she vigorously resisted him.

He then descended on her and brutally battered her, throwing her into a gutter in the process, seriously bruised and badly injured.

When the charges were read to him, Obinna pleaded not guilty and the presiding magistrate, Mr. T. Abolarinwa granted him bail in the sum of N50,000, with one surety in like sum, while the case was further adjourned till 11 May 2016.

Abolarinwa also ordered that he be remanded in the Kirikiri prison pending when he will perfect his bail condition.
