Governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike
A group, the New Initiative for Credible Leadership (NILC) has warned the governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike to desist from instigating Nigerians against the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The group in a statement signed by Steven Onwu, a reverend said the planned protest by a some groups of Nigerians including civil society organizations is against Buhari and “uncalled for”.
The protest is expected to take place in Port Harcourt, Rivers state capital city over the current fuel scarcity in Nigeria.
On Saturday, April 9, a group of civil society organizations, student unions and the organized labour said it will embark on a protest over the present administration’s inability to solve the prolonged fuel scarcity.
A co-facilitator of the protest, Livingstone Wechie said the protest which will take place on Thursday, April 14, would force the federal government to take required steps towards alleviating the sufferings of the masses.

But in his reaction, Onwu said the protest themed: “Occupy Nigeria Season 2” is being sponsored by the Rivers state governor as a distraction, embarrassment and sabotage on Buhari.
Onwu said the president has always maintained his neutrality in the re-run polls elections in the state rather than support Wike as he (the governor) had expected.
“The issue between the minister of transport and immediate past governor, Rotimi Amaechi and Wike has reached its limit. It is the reason Wike is sponsoring the so called “Occupy Nigeria Season 2” to both embarrass and sabotage the federal government,” Onwu said.
“If this is Wike’s strategy of getting at President Buhari for not taking sides in the re-run elections then it is very sad.
“Mr. President displayed the maturity expected of a statesman by neither siding with Amaechi nor Wike so why should the governor now be trying to burn the state simply to spite the federal government,” he said.

NILC called on the general public especially residents of Rivers state who have been invited for the protest to ask logical questions before participating in the protest.
“Our advice to student bodies, NGOs, CSOs, CBOs and any other person or group that has been contacted for this paid protest is that they should read between the lines and understand what it is they are asking for.
“The economic situation in the land and the associated fuel crisis are already being dealt with from what is being reported in the media so what else is the protest meant to achieve?” Onwnu asked.
The first occupy Nigeria protest happened on January 1, 2012, when some group of Nigerians occupy the streets of various states in the country.
The group’s protest came after the announcement of the removal of fuel subsidy by the then president Goodluck Jonathan.
Also, after the Occupy Nigeria protest the group achieved its aim and subsidy was immediately removed by the government in power.
