“For women, it’s one in eight. While Breast Cancer in men is rare, statistics show it is on the rise. In 2019, the (American Cancer) society projects 2,670 new cases will be diagnosed in men, with approximately 500 deaths. In 1991, only 900 cases of invasive Breast Cancer were diagnosed in men.” – Dr. Yiming Gao, a diagnostic radiologist at NYU School of Medicine’s Perlmutter Cancer Center.

October, though the perfect harbinger of the Holiday Season, brings in its (rude awakening), the poignant ‘Last Quarter Syndrome’ rife with jitters and all. It remains, however, the most special month for us. It’s the anniversary of Ginger Hospitality Company Ltd, (purveyors of Ginger Tapas & Grill, and Ginger Soul Lifestyle), during which we honor and enjoin global efforts to promote Breast Cancer Awareness.
In customary fashion, we celebrate our anniversary annually with PINKRocks! A Breast Cancer Awareness fete, successfully run every year since inception in 2014. Barring 2017; at the height of our transitional phase, following the abrupt, forced and traumatic closure of our Ginger Tapas & Grill doors in November 2016.
This year, as we turn six, despite all odds; we intentionally acknowledge, and encourage inclusion with our theme: PINKROCKS! IT’S A (WO)MEN THING.
As with any Life-Altering phenomenon, “what affects one, affects all”. In the final analysis; It’s A (WO)MEN THING.
The Journey
Six years ago, on October 5, 2013; we opened the doors of Ginger Tapas & Grill to Lagos, at 6A Ologun Agbaje Street, VI. The first of its kind, AfroFusion Mediterranean Tapas (destination) restaurant in ‘Cosmopolitan’ Lagos; no pun intended.
As we clocked six, on October 5, 2019; we are enthralled for the opportunity to host Ginger Soul Lifestyle PINKRocks in Accra, Ghana; a first-ever, outside Lagos.
For us, this marks the start of our long-time dream of Pan-African expansion; and reinforces our true stance to execute our desires of operating as a world-class experiential Transformational ‘Edutainment’ and Hospitality conduit. Following Accra, our Lagos (home base) celebrations successfully held on Friday, October 11, at The Avenue /Suites. A superbly curated and enlightening social evening of conversations, audiovisuals, entertainment, and warm Hospitality; with our guest speaker jarring our consciousness to the inquiry: “Have you ever thought of Breast Cancer and Mental Health in the same breath? Well! You should.”
While the exact causes of Breast Cancer remain largely unknown, and the “preventive” measures are mostly non-clinical; there is a clear correlation between high stress, mental disorder, and Breast Cancer incidences (as well as other ailments.)
“We need an (urgent) push for Mental Health Education as a Curriculum offer. A lot of (physical) ill health stems from mental imbalances.”- Dr. Dorothy Jeff Nnamani, MD – Novo Health Africa
Thanks to the astute, results-oriented Dr. Dorothy Jeff Nnamani, for her graceful, insightful and interactive discourse on the subject at PINKROCKS 2019. Her intriguing delivery on the correlations between Mental Health and Breast Cancer occurrences was vivid; and prompted immediate audience interactions; the kind of (deeper) connections, for which we live.

C.O.P.E Cancer, ably represented by its Proprietress, Ebun Anozie at PINKRocks, is a bonafide active Women’s Clinic in Ikeja, Lagos with a targeted focus on Breast Cancer Awareness, Mitigation, Care and Organization.
It’s been a long winding journey, and there’s so much more in the near future. We are indeed grateful that the ‘beat downs’ are simply (often painful) leaps and bounds, to the ‘GLOW UP.’
Hand in Hand, we go so much further. Thanks to all our loyal clientele and multiple stakeholders for continuously enabling us to stand firm in our truth. We wish you the best on your journey and urge you to stay authentic and true to self, come what may.
Our company’s social initiatives thrive on community support to flourish. We are indebted to our amazing selfless sponsors, whose Corporate Social Responsibilities align with our vision to continuously extend our hands in service to our community.
Specifically, we acknowledge Bet9Ja, our Diamond PINKROCKS Gem, for living up to it’s apt “More Than A Bet” persona, and so generously powering PINKRocks 2019.
