- Adamu also asked other institutions and people to work with the Almajiri Project to curb the street begging trend
Dr Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu, the emir of Bauchi, has lent his effort to end the longstanding Almajiri problem.
He said traditional institutions are doing everything within its power to reduce the trend of street begging by the Almajiri pupils in the state, Daily Trust reports.

The emir said this when he received a delegation of students of higher institutions under the aegis of Almajiri Project, whose aim is the sensitization against the negative effects of street begging.
The emir also commended the project for the work they have been doing and urged other organisations to join the struggle against street begging.
The National Almajiri Project, the Bauchi state chapter, had a peaceful demonstration on Saturday, May 25 to mark the Almajiri Child Rights Day.
The Almajiri organization used the opportunity of the demonstration to inform the public that an Almjiri can attain higher position in the society, urging them not be reduced to mere miscreants.
The director of Almajiri Child Rights Initiative (ACRI), Malam Nurudeen Lemu, said the trend of street begging may become Nigeria’s greatest challenge if the government does not address it.
He said: “We need to stop looking at the Almajiri child as the problem. They are the effect of failed leadership and they are the victims of how the system has failed Nigerians. We must solve the problem now.”
According to reports, the bastardised Almajiri system has continued to grow because most irresponsible parents see it as an escape to leave their parental obligations.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Governor Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi said N900 million would be disbursed to Almajiri schools to ensure every child in the state acquires both Western and Islamic education.
Bagudu announced this at the Almajiri Initiative event organised by Mass Literacy Programme and Almajiris Initiative (MALPAI) foundation in Birnin Kebbi on Sunday, May 26.
