Kebbi spends N36m to feed students on Sallah day

In celebration of the 2019 Eid-el Fitr , the Kebbi state government has spent N36 million to feed students in boarding schools.

Daily Trust reports that the president of the state chapter of All Nigerian Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Mustapha Gwandu, said the state government approved that money for Sallah celebration.

Gwandu while leading some students of Nagari College to celebrate the day with the Governor Atiku Bagudu in Birnin Kebbi said the governor decided on the gesture to ensure the students celebrate the day while in school.

The Principal of Nagari College in Birnin Kebbi said the state government decided not too close the schools during Sallah but also made sure that the students were comfortable.

The governor decided not to close the schools during Sallah but made sure the students in the boarding schools enjoy the Sallah celebration outside their parents homes.’’

“The students were very happy to stay back in their respective schools to celebrate the sallah because of the governor’s gesture," Gwandu said.

Commending the governor for ensuring the prompt payment of teachers’ salaries in the state, Gwandu said the recruitment of 1,700 teachers and 300 non-teaching staff for the secondary schools demonstrated that government was ready to improve on the standard of education in the state.

“Kebbi is one of the few states where teachers receive their salaries and other entitlements promptly.This is because of the good governance Governor Bagudu has demonstrated,” he said.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Governor Bagudu had on Monday, October 1, said the state government recruited 400 holders of Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) as teachers and 121 supporting staff to improve teaching in the state.

Bagudu made this known during Nigeria’s 58th independence anniversary celebration in Birnin Kebbi.

Legit.ng gathers that he said the administration provided infrastructural support to education sector through the construction of 287 classrooms in the 21 local government areas of the state.
