INEC reacts to controversial server claims by Atiku, PDP

Following the controversy raised by the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on the use of servers for the 2019 election, the Indepndent Electoral Commission (INEC) has declined comment on the nmatter.

Daily Trust reports that the chief press secretary to the INEC chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, said the commission would not comment on the issue to avoid running afoul of the election petition tribunal sitting in Abuja.

Rotimi Oyekanmi said dwelling on the issue which is already before the court could lead to sanction by the tribunal.

Oyekanmi said: “The Tribunal gave this warning in its inaugural speech. It is not just acceptable that we continue to discuss what is clearly subjudice. PDP has made a case and it is being argued in court."

“Why is it now being canvassed in the media? Is the purpose to influence the decision of the court? Let us exercise some discretion please and allow the court to take a decision,” Oyekanmi said.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Atiku had dismissed a viral claim that he plans to lead a street protest if the Presidential Election Tribunal ruled against him and his party.

The debunked claim said that Atiku said his "server results are authentic" and he "will lead all Nigerians in a massive protest that mankind have never witness (sic) before” if "judges frustrate the justice.."

However, in a statement made available to Legit.ng on Sunday, June 16, the PDP presidential candidate said the statement did not emanate from him or his aides.
