Football fans blast Messi after failing to help Argentina beat Colombia in Copa America opener

Lionel Messi has been thrown under heavy criticism by football fans following Argentina's 2-0 defeat to Colombia in their Copa America opening group game defeat.

A goal each from Roger Martinez and Duvan Zapata in the second half of the meeting saw Carlos Queiroz's men claim maximum points at the Arena Fonte Nova.

Despite starting Sergio Aguero and Angel Di Maria, the Argentine national team could not score a goal in the entirety of the match.

As the defeat however leaves the Argentine national team at the bottom of the table but will have a chance to bounce back when they battle Paraguay and Qatar in their remaining Group B games.

One said: "Messi carries Argentina" Drops mic. Pathetic excuses. Local Barcelona champion, only."

Another one said that: "Argentina lost and Messi fans on my TL are quiet. "

This supporter says: "He is Argentina. Argentina is a one man team. Just like Barcelona."

Meanwhile, the Barcelona captain has once again been the subject of the loss as football fans believes the 31-year-old will never win anything for the national team.

Coach Lionel Scaloni's men will hope they can bounce back when they battle Paraguay in their second match on Thursday, June 20. And their last group game comes up against Qatar next weekend.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Lionel Messi failed to inspire Argentina against Colombia in their opening game of the ongoing Copa America in Brazil.

Two second half goals from substitutes Duvan Zapata and Roger Martinez ensured La Albiceleste got their campaign off to a losing start.

They will now face Paraguay on Thursday, June 20 as they seek redemption at the ongoing championship.
