Anthony Joshua breaks silence after losing his boxing heavyweight belts to Andy Ruiz

- Anthony Joshua has congratulated the new unified heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz

- The 28-year-old Briton suffered his first defeat in his professional boxing career after bowing in the seventh round

- Joshua admitted that it was the Mexican's night but there are plans for re-fight sometime later this year

Former unified world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has broken his silence to congratulate his challenger Andy Ruiz Jr.

The 28-year-old, who has enjoyed a tremendous amount of success in his professional boxing career was stunned by the Mexican on June 1.

Prior to this fight staged at the Madison Square Garden in New York, Joshua had gone undefeated in his last 22 fights - winning 21 of the bouts by knockout.

However, the British fighter of Nigerian descent was handed the most shocking defeat of his career so far after going down on the canvass about four times before the seventh round.

Ruiz on the on the other hand stretched his knockout tallies to 22 after being crowned the all three IBF, WBO and WBA belts on one night.

"This is Andy’s night, congratulations Champ." the Briton tweeted after the match

Joshua had a slow start in the match as he went down on the canvass twice to Ruiz in the third round.

After a quiet fourth, Joshua bounced back in fifth round, but at the end of the sixth he looked like he was out of energy, not engaging in the last 30 seconds before the sound of the bell.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Anthony Joshua lost his IBF, WBA, WBO world titles to Andy Ruiz after he was knocked out in the seventh round on Saturday, June 1.

It was Joshua's first defeat in his career after winning 20 straight victories with 19 coming by the way of knockouts.

Ruiz is now the undisputed heavyweight boxing champion and has thrown the division wide open to challengers who want a shot at the titles.
