Senator Danjuma Goje (APC-Gombe Central) has disclosed why he backed out of the race for the Senate presidency in the incoming 9th National Assembly.
Goje, a previous key contender for the position, announced his withdrawal from the race after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari and Senator Ahmed Lawan, the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s choice for the position on Thursday, June 6, Daily Trust reports.

Legit.ng gathers that Goje, who is the chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, said he backed down out of respect for President Buhari.
He said he had no option but to back down, following the president’s intervention, even though his chances of clinching the seat are bright.
The meeting, which lasted for an hour, was brokered by Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna.
The ninth National Assembly is expected to be inaugurated on Tuesday, June 11.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna state applauded Senator Danjuma Goje for stepping down for Senator Ahmad Lawan in the race for presidency of the 9th Senate.
El-Rufai spoke with State House correspondents at the Presidential Villa, Abuja after he, Lawan, Goje and Senator-elect Uba Sani emerged from a closed door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday.
He said that Goje had withdrawn from the race for the Senate presidency and endorsed the candidacy of the Lawan.
