What one-sided appointment will cause for Nigeria - Cleric warns Buhari

- The expectation for President Muhammadu Buhari are high as the date for his swearing in, May 29, is fast approaching

- The Diocesan Bishop of Anglican communion, Diocese of Egba West, Rev Samuel Oludele Ogundeji, has warned President Buhari to beware of one-sided appointments

- Ogundeji said that such method of appointing ministers and officials will negatively affect unity in the nation

Ahead of President Muhammadu Buhari's swearing in on May 29, the Diocesan Bishop of Anglican communion, Diocese of Egba West, Rev Samuel Oludele Ogundeji has urged him to watch against one-sided appointments.

In his advice to President Buhari, Ogundeji said that such pattern of appointments, if not addressed immediately, will negatively affect the national spirit of the nation, Daily Trust reports.

Bishop Ogundeji further said that “no religion must be given greater prominence over the other because our country is a multi-religious nation.”

He added: “We call on President Muhammadu Buhari and his cabinet to intensify their efforts on the issue of insecurity, health care, road networks, education, agriculture, unemployment, power supply and other amenities that will better the lives of the generality of the people in Nigeria.

“The matter of the one-sided appointments into key positions in our nation must be addressed immediately before it causes some negative reactions from different quarters because the country belongs to all of us.

“No religion must be given greater prominence than the other, because our country is a multi-religious nation. Those who are in possession of our looted money must be made to refund them without bias or discrimination, so that our economy can bounce back again.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the Department of State Services (DSS) had warned of attempt by swindlers to extort money from unsuspecting government officials following moves by President Muhammadu Buhari to reshuffle his cabinet.

The DSS in a statement by its spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, said the fraudsters are targeting officials in sought-after government functionaries.
