These Are the Celebrities And Couture Looks We’re Dying To See At This Year’s Met Gala

It’s that time of year when celebrities, fashion insiders, designers and other high-profile names in music, fashion, film, sport and society  flock to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The event hosted by Vogue and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, to celebrate the Costume Institute’s newest exhibit is nicknamed the Super Bowl of fashion for a reason.

The extremely exclusive, star-studded event kicks off tomorrow aka the first Monday in May, has an ambitious theme that has us super excited. With the Anna Wintour seal of approval to basically look extra AF, we hope guests this year actually resist the urge to just look ‘pretty’ and take this opportunity to do the most!

Read on to see our wishlist of what could be the most exciting and experimental red carpet of the season. It is the Oscars of fashion afterall!

Lupita Nyong’o

Lupita Nyong’o

Another red carpet queen we most certainly look out for every year  (we missed her last year due to conflicting commitments in Cannes) but we look forward to seeing her make a bold statement on the 2019 Met Gala red carpet.

Rihanna

Rihanna

For the last 4 years, Rihanna has ruled the Met Gala red carpet  undefeated. From her Glitter Pope moment last year to the literal traffic stopping Guo Pei couture look for the  China: Through the Looking Glass in 2015, Rihanna shows us that themes don’t have to be costumer-y and the most difficult couture looks can be worn effortlessly. So it comes as no surprise that we have pretty high expectations of the singer turned entrepreneur.

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga

The pop star isn’t afraid to challenge dress codes and even if she wasn’t a co-chair this year, we would still have lofty expectations of this red carpet queen who is known for her red carpet statements. After a beyond stellar awards season, and with a reputation built on reinvention Gaga is possibly as campy as a celebrity comes. We don’t expect a typical look from this style chameleon and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Kiki Layne

The If Beale Street Could Talk starlet has had quite the stellar year – and stylists Wayman and Micah are taking no prisoners. We have no idea if she has been invited this year but we certainly hope so!

Zendaya

Zendaya

Zendaya and Law Roach are one of our favourite celebrity-stylist pairings ever. We can totally see the starlet killing the theme this year.

Tessa Thompson

Tessa Mae Thompson

Another Wayman and Micah client known for her whimsical sense of style, Tessa can be counted on for an unexpected red carpet look.

HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA – MARCH 30: Tracee Ellis Ross attends the 50th NAACP Image Awards at Dolby Theatre on March 30, 2019 in Hollywood, California. (Photo by Earl Gibson III/Getty Images for NAACP)

Tracee Ellis Ross

With her fashion bonafides well established, what we love the most about Ms Ross is that she loves fashion, but also looks as if she is having a lot of fun while doing so. We know she will love this theme and we hope she and her stylist Karla Welch interpret the theme in the most Tracee way possible.

WESTWOOD, CA – APRIL 08: Marsai Martin arrives for The Premiere Of Universal Pictures “Little” held at Regency Village Theatre on April 8, 2019 in Westwood, California. (Photo by Albert L. Ortega/Getty Images)

Marsai Martin

The young Black-ish star and producer of ‘Little’ has had many stellar appearances this year while promoting her movie and stylist Jason Rembert has kept it interesting. If she’s attending the Gala this year we have high hopes!

Cardi B

Cardi B and stylist Kollin Carter continue to kill her red carpet appearances, and her 2018 Met Gala look was impeccable, so we expect the fashionable rapper to make a statement this year.

Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez

As Jennifer Lopez is a big fan of designer Tom Ford, we imagine that it’s not too much of a stretch to see her in the designer this year.

Kerry Washington

Kerry Washington

The pretty Scandal star has kept a semi low profile the last couple of years, but we expect that she will bring the heat this year, as she is part of the 183 person committee that made the event happen this year.

Blake Lively

Blake Lively

Blake Lively is always one to watch on the Met Gala red carpet. Never one to go for a safe and pretty look, she pushes the envelope, stays on theme but manages to look amazing every time.
