De Gea has been one of the top shot-stoppers in world football, but in recent time has committed high-profile errors this campaign, the latest occurred during United 1-1 draw against Chelsea at Old Trafford last weekend.
As well as the school-boy mistakes he committed against the trio of Everton, Barcelona and Arsenal.
At the moment, it is still uncertain where the Spaniard will be playing his football next season, and to a large extent it is beginning to have an effect in his game.
De Gea is expected to start between the sticks for United in their away fixture against Huddersfield on Sunday, May 5, with second-choice Sergio Romero out of the game with a knee injury.
Club boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is backing the 28-year-old De Gea to rediscover his ‘A’ game during the Premier League contest.
“Of course we do (trust him), he's been fantastic this season. We're coming towards the end now. He's been in headlines for the wrong reasons but he has to deal with that.
“The goalkeeping department are fantastic, with Emilio (Alvarez), Sergio (Romero), Lee (Grant) and David. They're a tight-knit group. They've experienced better times than just now but he's ready for Sunday,” Solskjaer added.
At the last count, De Gea has kept just seven clean sheets after 36 Premier League games, conceding 51 times this campaign.
On the other hand, the Red Devils have let in more goals than others in the top six this term, with De Gea‘s form not helping United's unguarded defence.
