Jonathan remembers Yar'Adua nine years after, pays glowing tribute to his former boss

- It has been nine years since late president Umaru Musa Yar’Adua passed away

- In a glowing tribute to his former boss, Goodluck Jonathan said Yar'Adua will always be remembered and celebrated

- Jonathan worked closely with Yar'Adua between 2007 and 2010 before taking the baton of leadership in the country

Former president Goodluck Jonathan has paid a glowing tribute to his former boss, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.

Yar'Adua died on May 5, 2010 after a protracted battle with Acute Pericarditis at the age of 58. Following his death, Jonathan who was the vice president was immediately sworn in as the president.

In a moving eulogy to the former president on Facebook, Jonathan described the late Yar'Adua as a selfless leader who placed national interest above personal and ethnic gains.

"Yar'Adua was a man of integrity with a humble spirit who always took upon himself the burden of national reconciliation, peace-building, and democratic consolidation.

"He used the opportunity he had in public service to build bridges of love, foster unity and give hope to Nigerians," he said.

The former president said Yar'Adua will always be remembered and celebrated for the works that he had done, democracy he loved, democracy he nurtured and for his service to the nation.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Jonathan was South Africa for the general elections holding on May 8. Jonathan who is leading the Election Observation Mission of the Electoral Institute for Sustainable Democracy in Africa (EISA) said democracy has indeed turned the corner in Africa.

"Democracy has indeed turned the corner in Africa with many nations holding periodic and peaceful elections which put in the hands of the people the power to choose their leaders," he said.
