Bandits reportedly attack ex-gov Bafarawa’s house, kill one, kidnap nephew

- Some suspected bandits have reportedly attacked Attahiru Bafarawa

- The bandits was also reported to have abducted his 16 year-old nephew, Abdulrasheed Sa’idu who was at the house at the time

- However, when contacted, the spokesman of the Sokoto police command, DSP Muhammad Sadiq said he was not aware of such attack

The home of former governor of Sokoto state, Attahiru Bafarawa has reportedly been attacked by bandits and his security guard, Abdullahi Jijji killed in the process.

The 16 year-old nephew of the former governor, Abdulrasheed Sa’idu, who was at the house at the time was also reported to have been kidnapped, Daily Trust reports.

The director general, Bafarawa Foundation, Dr. Sulaiman Shu’aibu Shinkafi who reportedly confirmed the incident said the attack occurred around 9pm on Friday, May 3.

According to him, the bandits, numbering about 60 and armed with AK47 riffles came on motorcycles and bought N5, 000 fuel in the town before attacking the house.

Meanwhile, the spokesman of the Sokoto police command, DSP Muhammad Sadiq when contacted said he was not aware of such attack, the news outlet added.

Recall that Legit.ng had reported that Attahiru Bafarawa, a former governor of Sokoto state reacted to the recent claim by the acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, that governors have been cashing on the growing spate of insecurity across the country to inflate their security votes.

Legit.ng gathered that Bafarawa, who affirmed the accusation leveled against the governors by the EFCC boss, said while the wave of banditry, cattle rustling, kidnapping, communal clashes and general insurgency seems to be on the rise, the state governors are getting ‘richer’ as a result of the increase in the allocations set aside for their security votes.
