- Adamawa APC organising secretary, Ahmad Lawan, pulled his weight behind southwest 2023 presidency
- Lawan said the southwest zone has sacrificed enough for the north and President Buhari
- The Adamawa APC chieftain added that a southwest candidate will boost the ruling party's chance of retaining power in 2023
The organising secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adamawa state chapter, Ahmad Lawan, has reportedly declared that the southwest will produce Nigeria's next president on the platform of the party in 2023.
Sunday Sun reports that Lawan promised to canvass for southwest candidacy as he also intensifies his campaign for the position of National Secretary of the party.
According to Lawan, the southwest region has sacrificed enough for the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari.

He reportedly made the remarks over the weekend during an interactive session in Yola, Adamawa state.
Lawan, however, lamented the defeat suffered by the APC in Adamawa state and other parts of the north in the February 23 presidential election.
His words: “It should even be considered an inordinate ambition for any northerner to attempt to contest for the presidential ticket of the party in 2023 against candidates from southwest in view of the immense sacrifice they made for the progress of the country.
“APC’s 2023 presidential ticket belongs to the South west and every APC member interested in the progress of the country should work towards making it a reality."
The Adamawa APC chieftain said the southwest zone in 2015 and 2019 dropped its interest to support the north and its candidate.
“In 2015 general elections, the south west shelved its interest for the north and its candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, and did the same thing in the 2019 general elections. That is a friendship and partnership that the north must maintain and a kindness that must be repaid,” he said.
He added that a southwest candidate will boost the ruling party's chance of retaining power in 2023.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the national chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Chief Ralph Nwosu, stated that neither the national leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, nor the governor of Kaduna state, Nasir El-Rufai, can take over from President Buhari in 2023.
The politician was quoted as saying that the duo would fail in their quest to succeed President Buhari in 2023.
He asked Tinubu and El-Rufai to perish the thought of ever having to govern Nigeria, especially since the northwest where the latter comes from has produced Buhari while the southwest has Yemi Osinbajo, the vice president for eight years.
